Chapter 527  : Call Me Brother Zhiqian

Tan Mo felt a gush of relief and delight fill her heart.

She turned her head and bared her lips for Wei Zhiqian.

Wei Zhiqian let out a throaty chuckle.

Hearing that voice, Tan Mo felt her body turn to a puddle of goo.

How could a voice be so soothing? It was music to her ears.

“Momo?” Wei Zhiqian called out.

“Hmm?” Tan Mo’s ears trembled, and the tips of her ears flushed crimson.

“Can you try calling me Brother Zhiqian just once?” Wei Zhiqian asked.

Tan Mo could not seem to bring herself to say those two words.

She still remembered that when she first met Wei Zhiqian as a child, that was exactly what she had called him.

But Wei Zhiqian insisted that she called him Uncle.

After addressing him that way for so many years, she found it hard to call him differently, even though she had now declared her affections for him and they could finally date like actual lovers.

For twelve years, she had accepted the fact that Wei Zhiqian was a generation above hers.

And now, the two of them were suddenly together.

The new status of their relationship was mind-blowing enough for Tan Mo.

But to suddenly call him Brother Zhiqian after having called him Uncle for twelve long years...

Tan Mo found it absolutely impossible.

“Um...” Tan Mo muttered a sound of disagreement and immediately buried her face entirely against Wei Zhiqian’s chest.

Not being able to see her petite face was unacceptable to Wei Zhiqian.

Since he had finally made this little lady his girlfriend, he simply could not get enough of her adorable face.

Looking at her all day was a special perk reserved only for a boyfriend. There was no way he was giving that up.

With determination, Wei Zhiqian gripped Tan Mo’s shoulders and pushed her down again.

Tan Mo had nowhere to hide her face.

“When we first met, didn’t you used to call me Brother Zhiqian?” Wei Zhiqian asked.

In the past, he had regarded Tan Mo as a junior, so her calling him Uncle then was completely fine with him.

Now that the dynamics of their relationship had changed, Tan Mo calling him Uncle made him feel like an old man.

Tan Mo quickly covered her face with her hands.

She was still too embarrassed to look at Wei Zhiqian. “I did use to call you that, but you said I couldn’t back then. You insisted to be called Uncle, and now that it’s become a habit. I can’t change it.”

Wei Zhiqian was speechless.

Was karma biting back at him?

“Then, are you gonna call me that for the rest of our lives? Once we get married, you can’t call me Uncle anymore.” Wei Zhiqian was already thinking far ahead.

Tan Mo’s face turned even redder, and the areas where she did not cover with her hands had turned into a burning crimson.

She didn’t expect that Wei Zhiqian would start talking about marriage so soon.

“W-Well, we can talk about that when the time comes.” Tan Mo was utterly embarrassed.

Wei Zhiqian was on cloud nine.

It seemed that the little lady had thought about marrying him too.

“Fine, we can talk about post-marriage stuff after we’re married,” Wei Zhiqian said complacently.

Tan Mo grumbled in her heart. The way he talked sounded as if they were already discussing marriage affairs.

When in fact, it was only today that they had confronted their feelings for each other.

“Let’s talk about now then. Since we’re dating, our relationship is no longer the same as before. We’re no longer uncle and niece,” Wei Zhiqian said, “If you refer to me as Uncle now, it would still be inappropriate.”

Listening to his explanation, something suddenly came to Tan Mo’s mind.

She finally peeled her hands off of her face.

With her fingertips still hovering over Wei Zhiqian’s unbuttoned shirt, she tugged playfully, loosening and tightening her grip causally.

“About us being together, my mom might be a little bit more accepting when we break the news to her.” Tan Mo’s index finger and thumb gestured a tiny gap, barely the size of a needle. “Just a teeny-weeny bit more.”

Wei Zhiqian pondered in silence.

He suddenly had a bad feeling in his gut.

“My dad and my three older brothers would definitely be unable to accept this.” When Wei Zhiqian was just an uncle to her, the four of them had already been very cautious of him.

How could they possibly accept this god uncle of hers to suddenly become a son-in-law and brother-in-law to them and a boyfriend to her?

In the eyes of the men of the Tan family, Wei Zhiqian was probably a thief who had secretly guarded his loot while waiting for the perfect moment to pounce.

“Could you... Could you give me a buffer period?” Tan Mo asked.

Wei Zhiqian furrowed his eyebrows slightly. “We have to let them know that we are together. It’s impossible to keep this a secret. Besides, we’re going to get married sooner or later. Breaking this news to them is inevitable.”

“Of course,” Tan Mo said quickly. “I meant to give them a buffer period to wrap their heads around the idea.”

“Just... Don’t tell them all at once because then they would definitely have a hard time accepting us, and they won’t agree to us being together,” Tan Mo said. “I’m sure you won’t want my father and brothers getting in our way.”

Wei Zhiqian hesitated.

He wanted to say that even if they did get in their way, they wouldn’t be able to stop them from being together.

Since he got to know Tan Mo, had the men in the Tan family ever succeeded in stopping her?

Clearly, the answer was no.

However, he knew that Tan Mo wanted her family’s blessing.

She did not want her family to feel strongly against them at first and eventually warm up to the idea just because they had no other choice.

Instead, she wanted her family to bless them from the very start.

“I’m thinking maybe from now on, I can subtly feed them some information day by day. Without them realizing, they won’t be so repulsed by the idea over time. When we finally break the news to them later, they will be more accepting of the thought of us being together. Who knows? They might even be pleased to hear the news.” However, Tan Mo knew the likelihood of that happening was slim.

“Besides, it’s not just my direct family we need to convince. There are still our grandparents and great-grandparents too. I doubt they would take it very well. Do you think they might think of you as a pervert?”

Wei Zhiqian was lost for words.

That might very likely be the case.

Especially the old madam, she might say that he was avoiding the chore of going on more blind dates, so he preyed on the innocent little Tan Mo.

She might even whip him with a feather duster.

Nonetheless, Wei Zhiqian wasn’t afraid. He would just let her whip all she wanted to get it out of her system.

Then again, he was a little worried that his old folks might disapprove.

Everyone in the Wei family knew how much his old folks adored Tan Mo.

They might think Wei Zhiqian was preying on Tan Mo all along.

How could someone have a sudden change of heart toward a girl he had always been treated as a niece?

He feared the two would not be able to wrap their heads around this.

“Very well then.” Wei Zhiqian nodded in agreement. “I’ll take care of the seniors in the Weis. I’ll hit them with daily doses to get them prepped.”

Tan Mo breathed a sigh of relief. Thank goodness Wei Zhiqian was willing to compromise.

This would give the elders some time to process it. It still may not be easy for them to accept when the time came, but at least they would not be traumatized by the news.

After the two reached an agreement on the matter, Wei Zhiqian was done letting Tan Mo hide her face from him.

He took Tan Mo’s wrists, moved her hands away, and fixed them on both sides of her face.

Then, he ran his eyes across every inch of her face.

This was the little lady he had watched grow up. Every detail on her face had long been etched into his brain.

However, he was now looking at her with brand new eyes of a boyfriend.

It was an exhilarating feeling.

It was like he was just getting to know Tan Mo all over again.

Wei Zhiqian did nothing else but stare at her.

Without the slightest blink, his gaze hovered on Tan Mo’s face.
