Chapter 82 Female Lead
Cheng Yan looked back at the family matriarch, his lips pressed into a thin line.
The old lady glared. “Sit down!”
“Don’t get yourself too worked up,” he said casually before sitting on the couch next to her. He leaned back and stretched his long legs before him. Cheng Yanchuckled. “I’m here to see you.”
Old Madam Cheng gave him the side-eye. “I heard you’ve been up and about inCity A.”
The abrupt shift in topic surprised Cheng Yanso much that his jaw almost dropped. He nodded gingerly.
“Because of a high school girl?” the old woman nagged, sounding displeased. “I heard that she’s a good-for-nothing rascal with a lot of dark history on her back.”
The Old Master Cheng had passed away early, leaving his wife to uphold the family all by herself. Needless to say, she had developed a fierce and merciless streak over the years.
This made the usually affable grandmother into an absolute force of nature.
Cheng Yan looked up and met his stare, his eyes bright and clear. When he spoke, however, there was a hint of threat in his voice. “Who told you about all this?”
Luckily, the Old Madam had no intention of hiding her source. “Yu Shu.”
Cheng Yan’s lips turned downward. Despite his languid posture, he began to radiate a dangerous aura that made the servants around them shudder.
“Anyone who dares to grant Yu Shuentrance to the Cheng Residence in the future will be kicked out and met with dire consequences, “Cheng Yansuddenly announced, his words carrying over the rest of the main hall.
“Yes, Young Master,” the loitering servants responded in unison before fleeing the scene.
Old Madam Cheng frowned and peered at him. “Didn’t you get along quite well withYu Shu? I even thought the two of you would be on your way to giving me a great-grandchild by now. Why are you acting this way all of a sudden? Is it because of that high school student?”
“Stop calling her that, Grandma. Her name is Yao Tang, and she is your savior.”Cheng Yansighed as he took out a cigarette and lit it. “I would have expected you not to burn the bridge now that you’ve successfully crossed it. You’ve been granted a second life. As the matriarch of theCheng family, you should be acting with the dignity that befits your position.”
The old woman sputtered at his admonishments. “I didn’t even say anything against her! I was just asking a question, why are you being so defensive?”
Cheng Yan’s tone turned serious. “I will only say this once. No one may interfere in the matter between Yao Tangand I. Don’t even think about it.”
Old Madam Cheng put a hand to her chest and gasped. “You unfilial child! Who do you think you’re talking to right now?”
But Cheng Yanonly flashed her a devilish grin. “In any case, it’s too early for you to be expecting a great-grandchild. We’ll have to wait for a few more years for that.”
With that, he stubbed his cigarette on the ashtray and stood up.
He gave the Old Madam one last bow before sauntering out of the villa.
“Do whatever you want!” she yelled after him. “See if I care!”
With one last harrumph, she put her glasses back on and resumed her reading.
After making the arrangements with Xi Yan, Yao Tanghad been staying in the student dormitory.
That night, Yao Tanggot out of the shower and padded over to her bed. She threw her towel on the upper bunk, grabbed the railing, then practically somersaulted onto her mattress.
Her roommates gawked, flabbergasted.
Yao Tang was truly cool and talented.
But the person herself paid no mind to all the attention.
With a blank expression, she grabbed the towel and twisted her wet hair into its folds. She sat with her legs crossed, her elbows resting on her knees as she logged into her mobile game.
All of a sudden, a WeChat message popped up on her screen. It was from an old friend.
Sheng Ting: “Are you busy these days, Yao Tang?”
She pressed the towel against her head to absorb some water from her hair, then replied:
???
Sheng Ting: “Do me a favor, please? I need a female lead for my upcoming music video. I’ve searched and searched, but I just couldn’t find a girl who fits the bill.”
Yao Tang wasn’t interested in this trifling matter at all. She typed: “The college entrance exams are just around the corner. Studying is my priority.” Sheng Ting stared at her reply in disbelief for a few seconds. “Boss, can I be frank with you?”
He knew what she was capable of, and the fact that she had no cause to worry about something insignificant as the college entrance exams.
Yao Tang heaved a sigh on her end. “When is the shoot happening?”.
Sheng Ting: “Yes! I can’t believe you agreed just like that.”
Yao Tang opened her bank’s app and checked her account balance. The numbers infuriated her.
She had transferred 100 million to Yu Jingearlier in the afternoon, which set her back to a mere seven-digit figure. And she still had a lot of places in mind to spend money on.
Yao Tang: “I want a sizable compensation.”
At this point, Sheng Tingwas already beside himself with excitement at the prospect of getting her to be the female lead of his music video. Money was of no consequence. “Don’t worry about it. We’ll split the earnings 50-50.”
Yao Tang was satisfied with this. “Time?”
Sheng Ting: “Next weekend. It would only take a day, at most. Should I prepare your costume for you?”
Yao Tang: “No need. Just tell me the theme of your MV.” She turned her laptop on while she waited for his reply.

Sheng Ting: “It’s supposed to coincide with the Chinese New Year, so wear something red, something classic in design.” Yao Tang’s fingers flew over her keyboard. It took her a few seconds to find a dress that matched his requirements. She downloaded the image and attached it to an email before typing a WeChat reply: “Okay.”
Sheng Ting was overjoyed. “All right! I’ll see you next week.”
